Amazingly, according to Madrid daily Marca, Manchester City are holding out some small degree of hope for the potential signing of Leo Messi from Barcelona. The Spanish paper reports that City are aware Messi will renegotiate his contract with the Camp Nou club soon and feel they could offer him an escape route if he does not manage to agree the terms of a new deal.
Marca say the whole deal would cost Man City in the region of €300M, being broken down as €150M to pay Messi’s termination clause in his contract and the remainder for signing on fees and the Argentine’s salary. The paper also believe that City have quietly been in touch with Messi to let the player know what they would be willing to do to take him from La Liga.
Such a transfer would seem beyond the realms of possibility but where Manchester City and their finance is concerned it is no surprise they would try.
