Barcelona Will Move for Fabregas and Mascherano Again

Monday, 14th September 2009
Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain has been speaking about the Camp Nou club’s work in the summer transfer window and declared both Cesc Fabregas and Javier Mascherano as "left for later". Begiristain is quoted in Catalan daily Sport as happy with the side’s transfer dealings, believing that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will score many goals for Barcelona.
On the subject of Franck Ribery, Begiristain commented that the Frenchman "was never in the market". Begiristain explained on the subject of Fabregas and Mascherano that how Real Madrid approached the transfer window effectively meant that both of those players were priced out of Barcelona’s reach. "[The reason] Mascherano and Cesc did not come was because of financial difficulties. It was impossible to pay the money asked for after that from Real Madrid".
It seems certain that Barcelona will move again for both players at a later date, perhaps hoping that next summer the transfer market will have cooled down enough to allow levels of spending to return to normal.
