Florentino Perez enjoyed lunch with 100 of Real Madrid’s oldest members and declared that the club had "built a spectacular team" reports Marca. The president, who returned to that post at the start of the summer, declared it was as if he had never been away.

The lunch event was attended by the 100 oldest members of Real Madrid, along with club legends and current staff like Jorge Valdano, Alfredo di Stefano, Emilio Butragueno, Zoco, Pachin, Santamaria and Perez Paya. Perez told them all "by being here today with you I feel that I never left." He then went on to praise those in attendance. "For me this is one of the most important events because I can thank you for your loyalty to Real Madrid, for making Real Madrid the best club in the world."

The Real Madrid president also revealed another motivation behind the club’s huge spending spree, stating, "We built a spectacular team, which appeals to the fans for a season that, let’s not forget, Real Madrid for the first time in its history have not been seeded [amongst the first teams] in the Champions League."
