Arsenal’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis has told the media that he believes the club are right with their policy of restricting the amount they spend in the transfer market. Arsenal and their boss Arsene Wenger have disappointed many of the Gunners faithful by once again failing to splash out in the summer transfer window. Gazidis though insisted that they were plotting the right course: "We believe transfer spending is the last resort. That’s a sensible view to have. Re-signing existing players is a far more efficient system."
The Gunners chief executive further commented that the London club were living responsibly: "We are a club that is living responsibly within its means, which is important in the current climate…And we’ve still got a team that plays some of the most attractive football in the world."
With the purse strings appearing tight at the Emirates the odds would once again seem to be against any major arrivals at the club in January. And if Arsenal once again end the season without silverware then the pressure will surely increase on Gazidis and Wenger to address team needs for today, not tomorrow.
