Saudi Still Keen for Liverpool Investment

Print for later?

Thursday, 1st October 2009

Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have admitted searching for new investment in the Premier League club as the situation with potential buyer Saudi prince Faisal remains increasingly unclear. The duo issued a statement confirming the search goes on: "The owners have jointly retained Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Rothschild to evaluate the possibility of new investors injecting equity into LFC."

Whilst it would appear that prince Faisal is the front-runner to claim a stake in the club, the prince told Saudi TV that troubles between the co-owners were getting in the way. "It’s clear to everyone that there is some kind of misunderstanding between Gillett and Hicks" and Faisal stated his unwillingness to be dragged in: "We are not there to pacify between them".

However, Faisal still seems keen to grab some shares in the Anfield club, going on to say: "In this deal for us it’s not just about how many shares we acquire, 30, 40, 50 per cent – it’s also about setting up the academies."
