Arsenal Target Chamakh Rules Out French Move

Print for later?

Friday, 9th October 2009

Arsenal target Marouane Chamakh has seemingly ruled out staying in France when his contract expires at the end of the season. The striker is widely expected to move to the Premier League, with Arsene Wenger’s side in pole position, and he has further strengthened that belief by stating a move to another Ligue 1 club will not be his way forward.

Chamakh told the official Bordeaux website: "I could not move to another French club today. I was tempted by an adventure in Lyon in 2005. Honestly though, this is no longer possible. I could not leave for another club in this country because I have everything here."

The striker then added further fuel to the fire on the subject of a move abroad. "I think there is no better than Girondins [Bordeaux] in France. We can speak of Marseille, Lyon etc, and they tempted me. But if I have to leave Bordeaux it will be to abroad."
