Man Utd Eye Suarez in Face of Mounting Competition
Sunday, 1st November 2009
Manchester United are monitoring Ajax’s impressive Luis Suarez, according to the Times. The 22-year-old, who can operate either on the flank or up front, is the Dutch club’s captain and has established himself as one of their most impressive performers, following a move from Groningen in 2007. Suarez has so far notched up 54 goals in 74 appearances in the league for the Amsterdam side.
If Sir Alex Ferguson moves for the Uruguayan he can expect strong competition for Suarez’s signature. A host of top European clubs, including Inter, AC Milan and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on developments, whilst interest from moneybags Manchester City cannot also be ruled out, especially if Robinho heads to the Camp Nou.
Ajax will fight to keep Suarez, especially until the end of the season, with the Dutch title in their sights. However, in the summer they would surely find it hard to resist big money bids for their captain and a fee of between £30-35M has been mooted.
