Shawcross Snubs Interest to Sign New Stoke Deal

Print for later?

Saturday, 7th November 2009

Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross has snubbed the interest of a host of rival Premier League sides to sign a new deal at the Britannia Stadium. The 22-year-old, who moved to Stoke permanently from Manchester United in 2008, has been earning sparkling reviews for his performances this season. A raft of Premier League sides, perhaps the most notable being Manchester United and Liverpool, have been linked with moves for the defender this season.

Shawcross still had two years left on his contract but told BBC Radio Stoke that he was keen to stay. "It was just a case of making sure that it was the right deal for me and Stoke. It’s the right place. The main reason for that is that my family is happy here."

The defender has been mooted as a possible dark horse to be included in the England squad to travel to the World Cup in South Africa.
