Chelsea Closing in on Atletico Man Aguero

Print for later?

Wednesday, 18th November 2009

Chelsea are reported to be close to setting in place a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero. British newspaper the Daily Telegraph believes that the Blues are working hard to make the dream of Aguero a reality, and the price of the transfer would be around £40M.

The Premier League giants narrowly missed out on Aguero during the summer with Atletico unwilling to compromise on the fee and the Argentine himself wanting close to £6M per year in wages. Now though Chelsea have good reason to believe that the picture has changed. Atletico, despite publicly wishing for a fee of £50M for their star striker, are apparently ready to deal at closer to £40M, whilst Aguero is expected to lower his wage demands.

Chelsea would no doubt be keen to do the deal whilst their transfer ban remains frozen. Should Carlo Ancelotti’s side wait until the summer window there remains chance their ban may be back in force, leading them to miss Aguero.

If the Aguero deal does go through then the £40M fee would make the striker the most expensive signing in British football, ahead of Robinho.
