Liverpool’s Alberto Aquilani May Face Man City
Thursday, 19th November 2009
With Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera doubtful for Liverpool due to hamstring tears, the fit again Alberto Aquilani may find himself pencilled in for the match against Manchester City. The former Roma midfielder is eager to get involved having managed only two substitute appearances for the Reds so far.
Since his purchase for £17M in the summer, the Italian is facing the prospect of only his first start of the season, having just recovered from a long-term ankle injury. If Aquilani comes through the next two training sessions unscathed, the Liverpool faithful will have all eyes on the 25-year-old, as they hope to turn their dreadful situation around.
Rafael Benitez is also aware of the need to not rush the Italian though, and Aquilani will also watch the situations of Benayoun and Riera with interest. The Times report the injured duo have undergone radical treatment in Belgrade where horse placenta is used as a tool to help lessen recovery time. If the pair are found fit to play, Aquilani may find himself on the bench once again.
