Liverpool Linked with van Nistelrooy But Roma More Likely
Sunday, 22nd November 2009
Liverpool are being linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in the January transfer window, according to British paper the Sunday Mirror. The 33-year-old striker is keen to secure regular first-team football in order to push his case with the Dutch national team before the World Cup, and a loan move has been mooted.
Whilst Rafael Benitez is known to be on the lookout for affordable additions to his team, the possibility of van Nistelrooy heading to Anfield must still remain slim. The Sunday Mirror report goes against continued speculation in the Italian and Spanish press linking the Dutch striker with a move to Roma. The Serie A side also came close to signing van Nistelrooy in the summer.
The feelings of van Nistelrooy towards any move to Liverpool also remain an unknown, especially given his long association with bitter rivals Manchester United. For now a move to Serie A remains likely in January.
