Serie A Supercoppa Heading to China for Next Three Years

Print for later?

Sunday, 22nd November 2009

Serie A is looking likely to be playing their season opening Supercoppa Italiana in China for the next three years according to the president of the league Maurizio Beretta.

The one-off match between the league winners and cup winners has travelled abroad before and Serie A see it as a perfect way of spreading interest in the Italian game. CalcioMercato quotes Beretta as saying, "We have a draft agreement with the Chinese to play the Supercoppa in their country for the next three years. It has not been said that Beijing should be the venue at all costs."

Beretta also went on to state that Italian football is in excellent health. With increased popularity in China this can only help take the league forward on the world stage.
