Man Utd’s Neville Blasts ‘Spoilt’ Players

Monday, 23rd November 2009

After Sir Alex Ferguson’s attack on players being too fragile last week, Manchester United captain Gary Neville has followed suit. The outspoken right-back lashed out at the increase of modern footballers who are “totally dependent” on agents and advisors to run their lives.

It is one of my pet hates,” the 34-year-old defender said to The Times. “They don’t know how to set up their own bank account, they don’t know what they’re spending their money on and they can’t make their own decisions. Not every player is like that, but some are now totally dependent on agents and advisers.”

Neville, who missed Man Utd’s convincing 3-0 win against Everton at the weekend due to suspension, will be itching to get involved in as many games as possible. Having sat out just about the entire 2007/08 double-winning season, and only playing sparingly in the last campaign, the 18th-year veteran will be looking to hold down the right-back spot that he once dominated in the past.
