Barcelona Fans Shun Luis Figo

Print for later?

Wednesday, 25th November 2009

Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o received a huge ovation on his return to the Nou Camp, a clear sign that the Barcelona faithful have not forgotten the huge contribution the Cameroonian made before moving to Italy. The same welcome however, was not extended to the former Barcelona star turned Real Madrid Galactico, Luis Figo.

The retired Portuguese footballer was greeted with the sound of silence when he was pictured in the stands for the Barcelona-Inter match, an indication that past offences have not been forgotten. Figo played five successful years for the Catalan giants, before jumping ship to bitter rivals Real Madrid for a then world record transfer fee.

Altough the 37-year-old played the rest of his career out in Italy with Inter, the Barcelona faithful have not forgotten Figo’s decision almost ten years ago. With El Clasico just a few days away now, this is a great reminder as to how serious the rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona really is.
