Man City Ready to Break Bank for Liverpool’s Torres
Sunday, 29th November 2009
The British papers are once again linking Manchester City with an outrageous offer for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres. The Eastlands club, backed by the wealth of Abu Dhabi feel, according to the Mail on Sunday, that should the Anfield club fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League they would be unable to resist a big money bid for the Spanish striker.
It has been widely speculated that Torres could have been sold in the summer to City for £70M had the Anfield club’s owners struggled to refinance the loan they took out to buy the club.
The path ahead for City looks very unclear however. Firstly, they do not currently appear more likely to qualify for the Champions League than Liverpool, having again draw at the weekend, against Hull, and secondly Reds boss Rafael Benitez has already stated that were Torres sold then he would at once quit.
