Arsenal Not Quitting on Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh

Monday, 30th November 2009

With Arsenal looking blunt in attack in their last two outings without influential striker Robin van Persie, interest in Bordeaux front man Marouane Chamakh, has been renewed according to L’Equipe.

The Gunners’ lack of firepower has been exposed with their inability to score in losses to Sunderland and most recently Chelsea in the league. With Emmanuel Adebayor now plying his trade at Manchester City, and Theo Walcott just back from injury, the unimpressive Eduardo has been left to carry the burden in attack without much success. Arsene Wenger is now desperate to add to his side, with the Moroccan Chamakh, his prime target in January.

Bordeaux’s qualification into the knockout stages of the Champions League, coupled with the hefty price tag on the 25-year-old however, could prove to be stumbling blocks for the Arsenal manager. Ruud van Nistelrooy, and last year’s Ligue 1 top scorer André-Pierre Gignac, have also been tipped to be on Wenger’s radar should efforts to capture Chamakh fail.
