Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is relishing the position of being chased as his club sit five points clear of nearest title challengers Manchester United. The Ivorian striker has been enjoying a great start to the season having bagged 14 goals already, equalling his total for last year’s entire campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Drogba said, “When you are top of the league, it is good – the others have to chase us. They have to produce and do more than us to win games. It is true that Manchester are still there. We were in their position last year, behind and chasing. It is very difficult and now they have to come and catch us.”
The 31-year-old has also echoed claims from other Chelsea players that the feeling in the locker room is similar to when Jose Mourinho was in charge – one of confidence and belief. This has led Drogba to feel this season could be the one that the blues regain the Premier League title. “I think that is why we are top of the league and that’s why we believe we can be champions this year.”
