Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema Unscathed after Car Crash
Tuesday, 1st December 2009
The Daily Telegraph claims 21-year-old Karim Benzema, suffered a car crash on his way home from his side’s 1-0 defeat to Barcelona at the weekend, but has emerged unscathed. The accident happened in the suburbs of Madrid, and reportedly took place with Benzema well within the speed limit.
The promising French forward has failed to impress the Real Madrid supporters so far, managing only four goals in 14 appearances since his high-profile move from Lyon in the summer. Benzema, who has been compared to the great Zinedine Zidane in the past, was put on the map after a breakthrough 2007/08 season, where he scored 31 goals for his club, finishing as the league’s top scorer and Ligue 1’s Player of the Year.
With Raul, Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Kaka to contend with for a place in Real Madrid’s attack however, Benzema will have to reproduce the type of performances he regularly put in with Lyon, to have a shot at an extended run in the side.
