Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is still very much interested in Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, although he doesn’t count the player as an immediate priority.

Wenger is a known fan of Chamakh and had two bids rejected by his French club in the summer. The Gunners manager is very much aware that Chamakh’s contract is running out.

He told Arsenal’s official website, "Chamakh is still available for the summer."

The Arsenal boss denied though several media reports which suggested that he had made a move for the Bordeaux man already. "We have not met his agent, and we have not spoken about it."

Wenger though did not rule out a move and confirmed his interest. "He is a player we have an interest in, but we are focused on the short-term at the moment."
