Liverpool Take Interest in Reading Goalkeeper Adam Federici

Print for later?

Thursday, 14th January 2010

According to ESPN Soccernet, Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici, who was between the sticks in the club’s recent FA Cup triumph on Wednesday, is being linked with a move to the side he just helped dump out of the competition. Liverpool are said to be keen to replace second-choice keeper Diego Cavalieri, who has yet to impress at Anfield.

"I spoke to Adam and his agent has said he was aware that there had been some contact," Federici senior said. "Adam has always wanted to play with one of the top four or five clubs. We’ll all know more after Thursday. To be part of such a big club would be a great opportunity, but he needs to play."

At the start of the season, the 24-year-old Australian was named first-choice gaolkeeper of Reading, with former No. 1 Marcus Hahnemann being released by the club. Although a move to Liverpool is undoubtedly tempting for the young shot-stopper, having just staked his claim at a regular place in the squad, an immediate transfer seems unlikely.
