Laporta Slams Claims Barcelona Benefit from Refereeing Favouritism
Tuesday, 9th February 2010
Joan Laporta spoke out to the Spanish press regarding recent accusations that his club, Barcelona, are benefiting from special treatment from the La Liga referees due to his friendly relationship with Spanish football federation head Angel Maria Villar.
"That’s enough, all this magnifying this issue. We have talked too much already about these tricks to destabilize our club, but we are an experienced team and we have to be above all this,” Laporta said. “These accusations are misplaced and only serve to cast football in a bad light. They’re throwing suspicions that do not benefit anyone at all.”
Barcelona believe they are being subject to such accusations as the result of their own success. The Catalan giants are currently five points clear of nearest contenders Real Madrid in the league.
