Liverpool’s Philipp Degen has revealed how he is not ready to give up on his World Cup dream. The Swiss has had his Liverpool career blighted with injuries and it can have come as little surprise when he was left out of the latest Switzerland squad. Degen though remains hopeful he will be in South Africa, but knows for that to happen he needs games for Rafael Benitez’s men under his belt.

"I think everyone is looking forward to the World Cup," Degen told Liverpool’s official site, "but for me right now what’s important is being here and playing here. The news [of the final Swiss squad] will come in May and I hope I’ll be going to the World Cup."

With Switzerland drawn in the same group as Spain in South Africa, Degen knows if he does make the journey to the World Cup then he could find himself up against club team-mates Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina and Albert Riera.
