Former Bayern Munich President Beckenbauer Linked with DFB Top Job

Print for later?

Sunday, 7th March 2010

Former Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer has been linked with becoming the president of the DFB (German Football Federation). Beckenbauer, is believed by many to offer a safe pair of hands should current president Theo Zwanziger leave his post.

Zwanziger has come under fire for a number of so called failings, not least the breakdown of talks with current Germany coach Joachim Low over a new deal.

Beckenbauer, who enjoys a fine reputation within the German game, received much praise for his role in bringing the 2006 World Cup to the country. Whether the former German international would accept the role remains to be seen however, as at 64-years-old he has previously joked he is 10 years too young for the job.
