Liverpool’s Gerrard Could Face FA Probe

Print for later?

Tuesday, 16th March 2010

Liverpool’s impressive dismantling of hapless Portsmouth on Monday was slightly marred by the possibility that captain Steven Gerrard could face action from the Football Association for seemingly aiming an elbow at Michael Brown in the second-half. The incident was deemed nothing more than a foul by referee Stuart Attwell at the time, but video evidence could lead to a ban.

Both managers failed to spot the occurrence, but Rafael Benitez believes there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. “I don’t think so," said the Spanish tactician when asked if he was worried about action against Gerrard. "I haven’t seen it but I was asking and I think it was nothing."

The Reds would really want to avoid any action on their skipper, especially at such a crucial point in their season.
