Anderlecht’s 2-1 victory over Club Brugge at the weekend secured the side its 30th Belgian title. The win gave the club a 13-point advantage, an assailable lead for nearest rivals KAA Gent. Coach Ariel Jacobs was tossed in the air by his players in celebration of the feat, a gesture that the former assistant claims wanted to return to his squad members.

I should be the one to take the players on my shoulders, but that is not really possible,” Jacobs said on UEFA.com. “The actors are on the stage while the director stays behind the scenes. I would not have imagined we would win here, although we managed to keep up a high level in previous weeks. I also believe what we have shown here is something to be proud of."

Anderlecht have not lost in their last nine matches, the kind of form that has proven too much for the rest of the Belgian league.
