Reports from Portugal suggest Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on Benfica’s wing wizard Angel Di Maria and could throw Brazilian midfielder Anderson into the the deal to tempt the Portuguese side.

Di Maria is highly rated at the Estadio da Luz, but the Portuguese giants are prepared for multiple assaults from European powerhouses who have been monitoring the Argentine. Indeed, Benfica had one eye on a possible sale when in October 2009, they signed Di Maria to a new deal with a release fee set at a hefty €40M. A good World Cup in South Africa could see this asking price met.

Having just won his second Portuguese league title, Di Maria could feel the time has come to make a move.
