Despite completing a domestic double at the weekend and having a Champions League final to look forward to, Bayern Munich are still well underway with their plans to strengthen the squad for next season. And one player who has emerged as a very real target is Marseille defender/midfielder Stephane Mbia.

Mbia, according to L’Equipe, has caught the eye of Bayern scouts and impressed in Marseille’s march to the French title. The Cameroon star operated in midfielder for most of his career, although this season Didier Deschamps moved him into the heart of the defence to great effect.

The 23-year-old only joined Marseille last summer, costing €12M from Ligue 1 rivals Rennes. While Marseille would not be keen to part with their rising star, Mbia himself has previously stated he would like to play football outside France at some point – a fact that will give much encouragement to Bayern.
