Senegal centre back Pape Diakhate could be set to seal a move to Lyon before the transfer window slams shut. The 26-year-old joined Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne on loan for the second half of last season and soon gained a long list of French fans.

Paris Saint-Germain have been heading the chase for Diakhate and were expected to get their man by Sunday. However, a late intervention by Lyon has caused the defender, still under contract to Dynamo Kyiv, to head to the Stade Gerland for talks today.

Diakhate, who has played Champions League football for his Ukrainian side, is believed to be keen to experience the competition once more, placing Lyon at an advantage over PSG. Saint-Etienne were also looking to make the defender’s loan move permanent, but cannot compete with their two bigger Ligue 1 rivals.

Any move is likely to be a season-long loan deal with the option to buy Diakhate from Dynamo Kyiv for €8M.
