Diego Maradona is believed to be being taken very seriously by the Portuguese Football Federation after the Argentine expressed an interest in becoming the country’s new coach.

Maradona is keen to return to management after a somewhat disappointing spell with Argentina that ended after the recent World Cup in South Africa. And through his former assistants, it was made known he fancies the Portugal job.

While Paulo Bento, the former Sporting Lisbon boss, remains the favoured candidate, it is believed there are elements within the Portuguese federation who are open to the idea of bringing in a foreign coach, well aware that it could be the missing ingredient needed to take Portugal to the next level.
