Ibrahim Afellay has reiterated his desire to leave PSV Eindhoven as talk linking him with a move to Barcelona gathers pace. According to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona’s representatives are already in advanced talks with the young Dutch star and are in pole position to sign Afellay when his contract runs out next June.

Afellay has again stated he is ready for a new challenge. "I feel that now is the time to take a step forward. I had a great time at PSV and I still have fun here, but every footballer wants to prove themselves in the top level teams", he told Sport-Promotion.nl.

The only question mark appears to be just when Afellay will make his exit from the Eredivisie. PSV would like to cash in on the player in January while there is still time, yet Barcelona look content to wait until June when the Dutchman would arrive at the Camp Nou on a free transfer. The involvement of a number of sides who may be prepared to pay a fee in January however could complicate matters.
