Manchester City have been linked with a move for Lyon attacking midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. The 24-year-old has emerged as a January transfer target for the Eastlands club, who are hopeful they could persuade Gourcuff to swap France for England.

Gourcuff only moved to Lyon from Bordeaux last summer, but along with the rest of Les Gones squad has failed to make a big impact this season, enduring a terrible start to the Ligue 1 campaign. With Lyon having shelled out €22M to buy the former AC Milan youngster, the Ligue 1 giants may be open to a big-money offer from City which would guarantee a profit on their purchase.

Highly rated within France and beyond, Gourcuff is tipped to be a crucial part of former Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc’s bid to rebuild the France national team. The midfielder has also been linked with a return to Italy, where Milan, where the Frenchman played between 2006 and 2008, are said to still covet his services.
