Alou Diarra’s agent has denied reports that Manchester City are interested in buying his client. A number of media outlets in Britain had suggested that an £8M deal for the Bordeaux midfielder was on the cards, but the story is news to Jean-Pierre Bernes.

"No, there is nothing with Manchester City", said Bernes to the Sud-Ouest newspaper.

Asked whether something could happen with regards to Diarra in the January transfer window however, Bernes was more non-committal.

"Could there be something in the winter transfer window? Maybe. It is the case that offers are still needed. You have to see. But for now, the transfer window has not started and I have nothing more to say for the moment."

Midfield destroyer Diarra has some experience of English football, having moved to Liverpool under Gerard Houllier in 2002, upon the expiry of his contract with Bayern Munich. The Frenchman failed to make the grade at Anfield however, and was loaned to a series of sides in his homeland, before a permanent move to Lens in 2004.
