Belgian sports magazine Sport Foot has completed a study into the highest paid players in football today, finding that Cristiano Ronaldo leads the way. The Portuguese is closely followed by Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who saw his wages rocket after signing a new deal with the Premier League side.

Also highly paid are Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Inter’s Samuel Eto’o. Bastian Schweinsteiger’s new Bayern Munich deal is also enough to send him into the top 10. A surprise omission is Inter’s Dutch wizard Wesley Sneijder, who fails to make the top 20.
