Reports from France suggest Bayern Munich have stepped up their interest in Lille forward Gervinho.

Gervinho was one of the bright spots in an otherwise thoroughly forgettable World Cup campaign last summer for the Ivory Coast and as such attracted much attention in August. Liverpool came closest to signing the player, but Lille were determined that Gervinho should not leave on the cheap.

Now, under contract until 2012, Gervinho will have just one year to run on his current deal this summer, meaning Lille will need to cash in or risk the player leaving for free next summer.

Bayern have sent scouts to watch Gervinho and had their initial thoughts of the forward’s quality confirmed. Now the Allianz Arena side will attempt to take the Ivory Coast man to Munich in the summer.
