Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona have added two new names from French football to their list of summer transfer targets – Mamadou Sakho and Gervinho.

The Catalan side are pondering how to bolster their squad for next season and the duo have emerged as serious targets.

Sakho, a defender who has been likened to a young Lilian Thuram, would be an expensive option to tempt from Paris Saint-Germain. The player only recently signed a new deal in the French capital and Barcelona would have to begin the bidding at upwards of €20M to even cause PSG to consider parting with their star.

Gervinho’s situation is slightly different given the Ivory Coast forward-cum-winger has snubbed a new contract with current club Lille.

Lille still hope their participation in next season’s Champions League may make Gervinho rethink his stance, but interest from Barcelona will not help matters for the northern France side.

Barcelona have money to spend this summer after their agreement with the Qatar Foundation to wear the group’s logo on their shirts, replacing UNICEF.
