Arsenal have made enquiries for Villarreal winger Santi Cazorla that threaten to put Juventus’ swoop for Giuseppe Rossi at risk.

Rossi is a target for the Bianconeri, who believe they can tempt the striker to Serie A, especially given it is unlikely Barcelona – the Italian’s preference this summer – will push ahead with a move for the 24-year-old.

But negotiations between Villarreal and Juventus could be scuppered by Arsenal’s interest in Cazorla as the Yellow Submarine are not willing to allow two of their best players to depart before the 2011/12 campaign.

According to Sky Sport 24, Rossi’s agent Federico Pastorello has been informed by Villarreal that Arsenal have firmed up their interest in Cazorla and the outcome of the Gunners’ move must be awaited before any decision can be made on whether Rossi will leave the club.

For Juventus, losing out on the Italian striker would be a big blow as he has quickly become the centrepiece of their summer plans.

Spanish international Cazorla meanwhile would no doubt welcome the opportunity to play under Arsene Wenger at the Emirates, although the 26-year-old has been counted upon by the Yellow Submarine for their forthcoming Champions League campaign.
