Barcelona are set to use the forthcoming Audi Cup to run the rule over Internacional striker Leandro Damiao.

The promising 22-year-old was the subject of a bid from English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the summer, but Internacional would not part with their highly rated hitman, especially for the €12M Harry Redknapp’s side placed on the table.

Barcelona too have been tracking Leandro Damiao and Blaugrana coach Josep Guardiola has received a number of positive reports on the Brazilian from his network of scouts in South America.

Now the Audi Cup, which includes Bayern Munich (hosts), AC Milan and Internacional as well as Barcelona, offers the perfect opportunity for Guardiola to take a closer look at Leandro Damiao.

While the Catalans are still focused on signing Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal, a swoop for another striker is high on the agenda at the Camp Nou following the sale of Bojan Krkic to Roma.

Free agent David Trezeguet has been linked, but Leandro Damiao would represent a longer term option, albeit a more expensive one too.
