Dutch left back Erik Pieters believes that Newcastle United may well not be able to buy him from PSV Eindhoven, because the Eredivisie giants do not want to sell.

Pieters has been linked with a move to the English Premier League club, who have just bid farewell to Spanish left back Jose Enrique, selling the former Villarreal man to Liverpool.

23-year-old Pieters therefore would represent a solid addition to Newcastle boss Alan Pardew’s side and, with ten international caps under his belt with Holland, may even be classed as an upgrade on Enrique.

However, much work will need to be done if a deal can be struck and Pieters himself believes that PSV are set on keeping him in Holland.

"Before speaking about [a transfer], there should be some serious discussions between PSV and Newcastle", said the Dutchman to AD Sportwereld.

"To my knowledge however, my club has no intention of selling me."

Pieters arrived at PSV in 2008, costing the Eindhoven club a fee of €2.5M from fellow Eredivisie side Utrecht.
