Sochaux winger-cum-striker Modibo Maiga is trying to push through a move to English Premier League outfit Newcastle United, explaining he cannot understand why his French side will not sell him.

Newcastle are thought to have offered around €8M for the 23-year-old, but Sochaux would like to keep hold of the player they bought just last year from Le Mans.

This has angered Maiga, who believes the terms on offer from the English club are too good to turn down.

And the Mali man is urging Sochaux to accept Newcastle’s bid.

"I met everyone at Newcastle", said Maiga to L’Equipe. "They want me and it is not just any club. The Premier League is a dream.

"This is the kind of game I like, it suits me and it is good for my career. I want to leave, he [Sochaux’s President] has to accept that and negotiate.

"I told the coach I would play and respect my contract, but the president has to talk about my transfer first.

"I don’t want to annoy Sochaux, but I want it to be sorted out with Newcastle."

And Maiga cannot understand why the Ligue 1 club will not play ball, dubbing the offer on the table from Newcastle "huge".

"You can’t refuse such an offer. The sums are huge, both for me and for the club. Sochaux will not lose."
