Modibo Maiga appears to be one step closer to pushing through his dream move to Newcastle United.

The Sochaux winger-cum-forward has been left out of the club’s squad for their Europa League fixture against Ukrainian outfit Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday, leading to speculation that it is just a matter of time until he is sold.

Maiga has been furious that Sochaux’s president Alexandre Lacombe opted to reject an offer from Newcastle for his services and declared an unwillingness to play any further part in the Ligue 1 side unless the club changed their stance.

Maiga refused to play for Sochaux at the weekend against Caen and his omission from the squad comes hot on the heels of that move.

The 23-year-old has continued to urge Sochaux to accept the €8M offer on the table from Newcastle, stating that: "The Premier League is a dream."

The Mali international is also certain that the bid is a good deal for the French side.

"You can’t refuse such an offer", said Maiga. "The sums are huge, both for me and for the club. Sochaux will not lose."
