Highly rated Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Ramirez is in the process of discussing a new contract with current club Bologna, but a move to the English Premier League is already on the agenda.

The 20-year-old has already shown flashes of brilliance at the Rossoblu and the Serie A club have been quick off the mark in the opening of talks over an extension of his present deal.

Ramirez is expected to be offered around €220,000 plus a bonus of €500,000.

However, it may be touch and go whether Ramirez signs the new contract and, even if he does put pen to paper, whether he will be at Bologna in the long term.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United are believed to have had the playmaker watched and, due to his recent flurry of appearances with the Uruguayan national team – Ramirez currently has seven caps, the latest coming against Ukraine yesterday – a work permit in England is now within reach.

This will have not been lost on Ramirez’ Premier League suitors and should he continue to impress with Bologna, the likelihood is that a bid will land on the Italian side’s doormat either in January or next summer.
