Rennes have confirmed that they rejected an offer from Arsenal for highly-rated midfielder Yann M’Vila. But the Gunners are expected to try again for the Frenchman in January.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger stepped up his interest in M’Vila when Samir Nasri’s exit from the Emirates was confirmed. And Wenger did not take little steps with bid after bid, instead lodging a huge €30M offer.

M’Vila’s Ligue 1 club also explained that another three sides rivalled Arsenal for the 21-year-old.

"We received offers from Arsenal and from three great European clubs", said Rennes manager Frederic Antonetti.

"The offers were around €30M, but we decided to reject them all because we want to hold on to him for another season."

Nevertheless, sources in France have indicated that the Gunners are expected to try again for M’Vila in January, hoping that by that time Rennes will be more disposed towards selling the France international.

Wenger continues to rate the midfielder highly, believing he would be the perfect addition the English side’s engine room.

Rennes though have set a marker that they will only sell for a lucrative amount.
