Asamoah Gyan has left Sunderland to join United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain on a one-year loan deal.

The Middle Eastern club confirmed the news via their official website, underlining that once Gyan has completed a medical he will be unveiled.

Gyan has been looking for an exit from the Stadium of Light after becoming disillusioned at Sunderland.

The Ghana international is thought to have been unhappy to discover several members of the English Premier League side were being paid substantially more than him.

Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce had been keen to take Gyan to Istanbul before the country’s transfer window closed, but were unable to agree a deal.

And with no escape route in Europe open, the 25-year-old has opted for the United Arab Emirates.

"Anyone who has seen Asamoah play will know that he hasn’t been himself in recent months", said Sunderland boss Steve Bruce.

"This option suits all parties at the present time and the club is well protected in the deal."
