Chelsea have been linked with Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin.

Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas is thought to be considering bringing in another centre back when the transfer window opens in January and Uruguayan international Godin is featuring prominently in his thinking.

Godin did appear close to the Vicente Calderon exit door throughout the summer, with another English Premier League side, Liverpool, also showing serious interest; the Merseyside giants opted for Godin’s countryman Sebastian Coates however and the 25-year-old stayed put.

Interest in his services from Chelsea however is sure to turn the defender’s head and Godin would likely leap at the chance to move to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of 2012.

The 25-year-old offers pace combined with a tough-tackling Uruguayan style of defensive excellence.

Godin joined Atletico only last year, being snapped up by the Madrid giants from fellow La Liga outfit Villarreal for a fee of €8M.

The defender is under contract at the Vicente Calderon until 2015.
