Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin looks set to be a man in demand in the winter transfer window.

The Uruguay international has been linked with English Premier League outfit Chelsea in recent weeks, while the likes of Real Madrid and AC Milan are also possible interested parties.

But it is Inter who have emerged as, along with Chelsea, Godin’s most likely destination if he does call time on his stay at the Vicente Calderon.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is known to be on the lookout for a solid centre back to bolster his squad, while Inter have struggled to get to grips with new coach Gian Pier Gasperini’s desire for a three-man backline.

Indeed, the Inter defence looked all at sea in their Serie A opener against Palermo, which was lost 4-3.

Godin therefore could be the answer for Gasperini if he receives substantial backing in the winter window.

The centre back is under contract with Atletico until 2015 and would be expected to cost €15M.
