FC Porto striker Hulk is a target for English Premier League giants Arsenal and the Gunners have made contact with the player’s representatives his agent has confirmed.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for extra striking power as he is acutely aware that Robin van Persie cannot be asked to shoulder the goalscoring burden alone. Indeed, the Frenchman was recently urged by the man he had claimed could be his successor at the Emirates, to buy a "real striker".

Hulk would certainly fit into the "real striker" category and the Brazilian has scored for fun since joining Porto in 2008 from Japanese outfit Tokyo Verdy.

The Gunners were reported as having prepared a €23M offer for Hulk, though the forward’s agent admits he does not know whether that is true, though he confirms there has been contact.

"Every year there are more clubs interested in Hulk and I am also aware that there are clubs from outside the Premier League interested", Teodoro Fonseca told A Bola.

"The Arsenal rumour [of a €23M bid] is news to me, but it is true that there has been contact before, but nothing happened."

Fonseca also stated his belief that Porto intend to stick to Hulk’s €100M buy-out clause if a side comes in with an official offer.

"But I speak often with Porto and the figures have not changed.

"He will only be sold if someone pays the €100M, so this figure of €23M that has appeared would not be considered."
