Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is bidding to make a splash in the January transfer window by snapping up not one, but two strikers.

The Magpies, who have been this season’s surprise package in the Premier League and currently occupy a Champions League spot, are keen to add more firepower to their frontline when the winter window opens.

And while one new forward might be considered enough, Newcastle are keen on both Sochaux hitman Modibo Maiga and FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong.

Sochaux man Maiga featured heavily on Pardew’s wanted list over the summer and the 24-year-old agitated for a switch to St. James Park, even being omitted from a Europa League squad as a result.

Maiga has since knuckled down at Sochaux though and is continuing to produce the kind of form which so interested Pardew in the first place.

Now it seems Sochaux will be willing to allow Maiga to head to Newcastle for the right price.

Capturing Dutchman De Jong however will be an altogether more difficult operation for Pardew.

The 21-year-old is considered a key performer for Twente and the Tukkers are not keen to lose his services mid-season.

Under contract until 2014 with Twente, were Pardew able to snare De Jong, it would be considered something of a coup.
