Arsene Wenger has dropped a hint that the current campaign could in fact be his last at Arsenal.

Wenger confirmed, in an interview with French magazine L’Equipe, that he would think carefully about his future at Arsenal when the 2011/12 season has run its course, commenting: "We’ll look at things at the end of this one."

The Frenchman has been Arsenal manager since 1996 and readily admits that he has less time in front of him in the Gunners’ dugout than behind.

"What is hard is the feeling something is finishing", said Wenger, while continuing to take pride in the fact that his work at Arsenal is guaranteed to live on.

"For me, we’re now talking short term, it’s obvious.

"But whether it’s with me or someone else, it changes nothing.

"My successor needs foundations on which he can be successful."

Wenger has come in for serious criticism at points this season, with his squad weakened over the summer with the sales of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri to Manchester City respectively.

But despite a mixed start, Wenger has guided Arsenal to a mini-revival.

Were the Frenchman to leave the Emirates he would undoubtedly be in demand, with Paris Saint-Germain, seeking a big name in the dugout, certain to have taken note of his words.
