Chinese Super League giants Shanghai Shenhua are moving closer to signing Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea.

The Blue Devil are keen to add Anelka and are believed to have placed a big money contract worth $10M per year in front of the French goal-getter.

The Chinese outfit have also confirmed that there is very real substance to growing talk of the former Real Madrid striker landing in Shanghai – and an announcement will be made when pen touches paper.

"This is not a rumour, you don’t need to wait too long", Shanghai Shenhua spokesman Ma Yue told the China Daily.

"We will make an announcement as soon as the club signs a contract (with Anelka)."

Blue Devil owner Zhu Jun has dangled the prospect of big name arrivals in front of the club’s fans, with a promise that the proposed move for Anelka should become much clearer in the next ten days.

And the Chelsea man could just be the first in a series of superstar arrivals.

"We do have plans to introduce big name players next season", Ma Yue added.

Anelka may well be coached by former Fulham manager Jean Tigana.

The 56-year-old toured Shanghai Shenhua’s training facilities in November and is expected back in China during the middle of December, where he could well opt to ink a contract with the Super League outfit.
