Tottenham Hotspur have lodged a bid of €6M with FC Twente for Bulgarian goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov according to sources in Holland.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is on the lookout for a promising young shot-stopper to add to his squad as Brad Friedel (40) and Carlo Cudicini (38) are in the twilight of their careers, while Brazilian Heurelho Gomes is tipped to quit White Hart Lane in search of regular first team football sooner rather than later.

And to this end the English Premier League outfit have identified Mihaylov as the perfect addition.

The 23-year-old has been under close observation from Spurs’ scouts and the reports sent back to Redknapp must have been glowing as a bid has landed on the Tukkers’ doormat.

Mihaylov is no stranger to English football, with the Bulgarian having joined Liverpool in 2007 from Levski Sofia, after being tipped for big things.

Playing time was difficult to come by at Anfield however and the shot-stopper was soon on loan at Twente, with the Dutch outfit making the move a permanent one in 2010, with a fee of €1.8M sent to Merseyside.

Mihaylov has established himself as the Tukkers’ number 1 and impressed as Twente have continued to challenge for honours at home.

Whether the Bulgarian will be keen to move to Spurs remains to be seen, but a €6M bid is a statement of the White Hart Lane side’s intent.
